Life’s Little Challenges
He held his breath. Waiting. It was a long wait of seven years. He had struggled through embarassing moments. Moment when watching a movie got him stuck on his seat as he was unable to lift himself from his seat after the show. Eyes bulged due to protrusion of the eyeball. Palpitation. Irritability. Hyperactivity as a result his weight reduced to just 90 lbs. He was confused.
He was diagnosed as suffering from overactive of the thyroid gland or the medical term hyperthyroidism. After seven long years of being placed on medication, he waited for this moment. His thoughts were scattered, as he was wheeled into the operating theater for the chance to removed a part of his thyroid gland. He was not fearful as he think “Will I survive the operation?”
Then he overheard, “His pulse is too slow! We should wait for tomorrow.” “No, not tomorrow. He’s ready to go.”, said another voice. As the needle touches his skin, he was relax having received those poking needles for seven years to suck out blood for testing. Then he felt the cold solution of the anaesthetics moving upwards through the vein and eventually hitting his brain. Instantly, he black out. The next moment, or so he thought, he was moving towards the overpowering white light. The next next moment he heard voices and he was awake. On checking he has a six inch sewed scar across his neckline as a reminder that a large part of his glands were removed.
Within the next three months, he recovered and gained weight. In fact, his weight doubled. Then, for no reason, he went into a depressive mood leading to anxiety. Confusion again. A medical check showed he is now suffering from under active of the thyroid gland, the medical term for hypothyroidism. Doses of medication works. He recovered.
The roller coaster ride of experiencing the symptoms, moving from hyper to hypothyroidism has been trying times for him. He suffered under life’s physical bodily chemical in-balance in our glands. He understood the feeling of extreme anxiety. He understood real fear though irrational. And he understood the difficulty of facing the world because of the heavy dark cloud hovering above him. Nevertheless, Ratana is now stronger, knows that this too will pass and is ready for new challenges.

That’s quite the story! Hopefully it all works out for the best!
